The Red Shoes

August 16 (Monday) 9:00PM HK Science Museum

Do not miss your last chance to catch The Red Shoes after its sold-out screening at the 34th HKIFF. Often cited as one of the greatest British films ever made, The Red Shoes took 35 years of restoration overseen by Martin Scorsese and inspired many film-makers including Francis Ford Coppola and Steven Spielberg. Directed by Michael Powell, the 1948 film is visually one of the most innovative and beautiful works of cinema ever created.

"We must be contented with repeating that The Red Shoes is one you must see." The New York Times

3 Restored Taiwanese Classics

The SIFF will be the first event outside Taiwan to present three digitally restored masterpieces directed by three Taiwanese masters, including Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s Dust in the Wind, Edward Yang’s The Terrorizers and Tsai Ming-Liang’s Vive L’amour.

Dust in the Wind (restored version)
(Lianlian Fengchen)

August 14 (Saturday) 1:50PM The Grand
August 22 (Sunday) 5:00PM The Grand

The title refers to man's inability to halt the march of time, and in this melancholic, critically acclaimed work by master director Hou, youthful innocence is the greatest casualty.

1990 Kinema Junpo Awards Best Foreign Language Film Director

"
Dust in the Wind is a brilliant, elegiac work that is also among Hsien's most accessible. A must-see for anyone interested in film outside of Hollywood." All Movie Guide

The Terrorizers (restored version) (Kongbu Fenzi)

August 12 (Thursday) 7:15PM The Grand
August 21 (Saturday) 9:30PM The Grand

One of late director Edward Yang’s most accomplished films, The Terrorizers interplays fiction, media and reality to create a jigsaw puzzle whereby three unrelated couples are drawn together by a crime.

1987 Silver Leopard winner, Locarno Film Festival.

1987 Asia-Pacific Film Festival Best Screenplay

"The Terrorizers realistically records the people’s private sentiment at a specific moment of Taiwan’s rapid socio-economical transformation." Time Out

Vive l’amour (restored version) (Aiqing Wansui)

August 15 (Sunday) 2:15PM The Grand
August 23 (Monday) 7:15PM The Grand
