34th HKIFF Kicks Off with Two Star-Studded Opening Galas – Crossing Hennessy and Like a Dream

 

The 34th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) kicks off with two highly anticipated Hong Kong films – the World Premiere of Crossing Hennessy and the Gala Premiere of Like a Dream on March 21, 2010.

Crossing Hennessy is a tale of an unlikely friendship between two thirtysomethings, Oi-lin(Tang) and Loy(Cheung), who are set up on a blind date.

Like a Dream is a romantic drama in which a Chinese-American, Max (Wu) travels to China to look for his imagined ideal love.
Eight more Hong Kong-produced films will celebrate their world premieres at the 34th HKIFF: Ex, Love in a Puff, La Comedie Humaine, Break Up Club, Fire of Conscience, 37, Gallants and Girl$. One of the key highlights include the Asian Premiere of Fritz Lang’s original cut of the science fiction masterpiece, Metropolis, with over 60% of tickets already sold within two weeks.

Donatella Versace to present New Best Costume Designer Award at the 4th AFA

 

Renowned fashion icon Donatella VERSACE will be presenting the Best Costume Designer Award at the 4th Asian Film Awards (AFA) to be held on the 22nd March, 2010 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The award is a new addition to the AFA this year to recognise the work of Asian costume designers in cinema.

 

VERSACE, Vice President of Versace Group and Creative Director of the fashion line that bears her family’s name, is a giant in the fashion industry. Respected worldwide as an authority in design, VERSACE is a pioneer in inviting world-class celebrity endorsements to promote Versace, an iconic brand she built in collaboration with her late brother Gianni VERSACE.

 

 

HAF Commemorates Renowned Film Producer WOUTER BARENDRECHT with New Award

Dedicated to the memory of the renowned film producer and co-founder of the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), the organisers of the HAF are honoured to present a new award named the Wouter Barendrecht Award.

 

As the founder of Fortissimo Films, BARENDRECHT had been credited with helping a generation of Asian filmmakers to reach a global audience, including WONG Kar-wai, IWAI Shunji, TIAN Zhuang-zhuang, WANG Xiao-shuai, ZHANG Yang, RATANARUANG Pen-ek and ZHANG Yuan.

 

Along with the Wouter Barendrecht Award, four other awards will also be presented to recognise outstanding potential: two HAF Awards, Technicolor Asia Awards and Paris Project Award.
